Hydraulic Brake Bleed


OVERVIEW

Modern brake systems require new services to get them working tip-top! My service standards are much more involved than popping the bleed screw and putting in new fluid. If you only do half a job then you only have to charge for half a job!


HIGHLIGHTS

All parts are checked for wear or damage. The caliper is removed from the bicycle to ensure the air bubbles can escape during the process. The rotor is sanded with fine sandpaper to remove any oxidation, glazing, embedded particles, and whatnot then cleaned with a degreaser. The brake pads are removed from the caliper and receive the same treatment.

The appropriate brake fluid is (gravity) flushed through the system until it comes out clean, purging the air bubbles in the process. The calipers are lightly cleaned and reinstalled, then the brake pads, then the wheel. Everything is realigned, rotors trued if necessary, and the bike is test-ridden.
